What counts as the same age?

Completed age means age at last birthday. Someone aged 30 has reached their 30th birthday but not their 31st at the reference date. This is not the same as everyone born in a particular calendar year. Age 0 means younger than one year.

How the age calculator works

The tool reads the World row from the UN single-age population table, both sexes combined. It uses the published age cell directly, converts thousands to people, and divides by the same year's total population for the percentage. No five-year age group is divided by five, and annual birth totals are not used as a substitute for surviving people.

The 100-or-older option is the source's open-ended 100+ group. It cannot tell us how many people are exactly 100, 105 or 110. Every other option refers to one completed year of age.

Does this measure people my age today?

It is a 2026 mid-year projection based on the UN's 2024 revision, not an observed register or a live count. Birthdays, deaths and revisions can change actual age groups. The tool does not pretend to track those changes or extrapolate them second by second.

Reported age data can be affected by incomplete registration and age misreporting; the UN estimates and projects consistent age structures. Displayed counts are rounded to the nearest thousand. The children page sums these same ages from 0 to 17.
