What the estimates mean
PRB reconstructs humans ever born using historical population sizes and assumed birth rates. Prehistoric totals cannot be known exactly.
The current total interpolates between dated UN WPP 2024 projection anchors. Births and deaths use matching annual rows. The ever-born extension uses annual UN births after an assumed mid-2022 PRB reference date.
People share an average birthday date when population is divided by the tropical-year length. Actual dates vary because births are seasonal.
